Begin with items you never used or didn’t like—broken or useless items—and say, ‘Your job here is done.’ It’s a great way to build decluttering momentum.” Starting with items that clearly don’t serve you can help ease you into the process.
A common misstep is to get that box of sentimental items from the back of the closet and start to go through it piece by piece. This is an emotional and fraught process. Leave this until the end, let your momentum and your confidence grow by starting with items that do not hold special meaning. Start with the items you never liked, needed, or used.
And by the way, you can just keep that box under your bed, or in the back of you closet!
